The Pilobolus Dance Theatre was created from a class project in a beginners' modern dance class at Dartmouth College in 1971. It has evolved into a world-renowned and highly respected modern dance theater that includes an administrative arm, two dance groups, and an educational institute. Included in the records are recordings of performances, rehearsals, and interviews in various formats; business records and correspondence; and playbills, pictures, interviews, and memorabilia. The records document how Pilobolus Dance Company was formed, how it has artistically and professionally evolved since its inception, and how it has impacted the evolution of modern dance. Founders and early members include Robby Barnett, Alison Becker Chase, Martha Clarke, Moses Robb Pendleton, Michael Tracy, and Jonathan Wolken.
